Oligovax SAS is a privately held, emerging biopharmaceutical company dedicated to the development of anti-cancer medicines belonging to a new therapeutic class, TLR9 agonists.
The company was created in 2000, based on the groundbreaking research of Professor Antoine F. Carpentier at the Hopital Pitié-Salpetrière in Paris , who co-founded the company with Paul van der Schueren.
The company's technology approach is based on drug substances consisting of synthetic oligonucleotides (ODNs) containing CpG motifs that have immunostimulating properties. These ODNs function as stimulators of receptors called Toll-Like Receptor 9 present in immune cells such as plasmacytoid dendritic cells and B cells, thereby triggering the body's innate and adaptive immune response. Such an approach to cancer immunotherapy does away with the requirements of selection and purification of a relevant tumour antigen, which is usually a rate-limiting step in conventional cancer immunotherapy.
Oligovax is conducting several Phase I and II clinical trials in glioblastoma and tumoral meningitis. The company is actively seeking partnerships with pharmaceutical companies for the development and commercialisation of Litenimod as a stand-alone approach in cancer or as a vaccine adjuvant.
